The above map of the Battle of Newport Barracks was drawn by Josiah O. Livingston of the 9th Vermont. Livingston was one of three members of the 9th Vermont to later win the Medal of Honor for their actions during the February 2, 1864 battle.

Back in the Old North State for the week

I am home for the week in Newport and it is nice to be back. I will be finished up some work for the Newport Barracks book, in addition to the continued book on North Carolinians at Gettysburg. While I am home if anyone would like a tour of the battle sites feel free to shoot me an email and we can set something up.

This week I will put up some posts here on a few topics of interest including information of a Carteret County soldier killed in Iverson's brigade on July 1st at Gettysburg.
